Sympathy Card

This is another entry into Scrapbook Boutique’s challenge #2. It is a Sympathy card for someone who has lost a loved one.

I used my Cricut machine to cut the tag and the oval shapes for the sentiment. I am really starting to appreciate this machine now.

Scrapbook Boutique Challenge #2

Scrapbook Boutique’s challenge #2 is to create a project using at least 2 or more hand crafted die cuts (not alphabet or bought ones). One of the machines you can use is a Cricut, and guess what …. I have one.

I bought this item when I first started scrapbooking and they were fairly new to the market. I think I used it a couple of times and then put it in a cupboard, and haven’t used it since. I didn’t have space for it, and it seemed too complicated to think about. How wrong was I!!! I have re-fallen in love with it and will now be using it regularly.

I also recently purchased a Big Shot but so far have only 1 die cut for it, a collection in the infant stage. But now I have got my Cricut out and am feeling confident using it, I may want to start investing in some cartridges as well.

Anyway, back to the card. I originally got the idea from Kristina Werner’s blog, I think is was a love heart to use up ribbon scraps. I have so many scraps of paper that I did my own take on the idea. I have used the negative of the star die cut and the tag is die cut (with it’s ‘shadow’), all done on my circuit machine. I hope using the negative counts as a die cut?

I am so happy about this challenge because it made me get out a machine that I spent a significant amount of money purchasing and was beginning to regret. So Evelyn, thank you very much, I no longer regret my purchase.

Papers: Variety of scraps, Navy Cardstock
Stamps: Birthday Best-Stampin’ Up, Kiwi Smooch, Stencil for stars
Inks: Old Paper Distress Ink-Ranger, Navy Marker, White Gel Pen-Uni-ball Signo
Embellishment: String, Eyelets

Funny story about Inspiration

I made this card today, This has a funny story.

Looking at some blogs for inspiration I saw one on Joys blog that I liked. Decided to use up some old scraps of paper (my scrap tray is overflowing!). Founds some patterned paper with some plain cardstock that would look OK and then started. Picked out a stamp (unfortunately I have a beginners collection of stamps so my choice had no similarity to Joys)…oh well….kept on plodding along. Then feeling a bit lazy to get out a circle cutter (nestabilites circles are already on my order from Scrapbook Boutique), and looking at my stamp selection I thought a rectangle would suit better. This was the beginning and end of ANY similarity to the card I intended making!! Anyway I am please with how it turned out.

I think sometimes when we look at other cards for inspiration, it turns out the only inspiration we needed was to pick up some paper and pick out a stamp.

Papers: Variety from scrap tray, I think the pattern paper is from Kelly Panacci.
Stamps: Sassy Stems and En Francais - Stampin’ Up, Mini Messages - Kaszazz.
Inks etc: Old Paper and Fired Brick distress inks – Ranger, Black Stazon, Stampin’ Pastels – Stampin’ Up
Embellishments: Rhinestones – Kaisercraft, Glossy Accents –Ranger

Scrapbook Boutique August Colour Challenge

Ok everyone, here goes. I'm going to start attempting to do some challenges. I recently came across an online shop called Scrapbook Boutique. They have the most amazing range of supplies and I think I will be doing all my ordering through them now. Love it.

This is the first challenge I have ever done and am very nervous. Although I've always loved anything to do with craft, there is still so much to learn!! The Scrapbook Boutique August Colour Challenge was Blue and Yellow. I looked in my supplies and found some blue and yellow cardstock. The stamps are from Tim Holtz and I had to use some of the distress inks...love..love...love them. I want all of them now.

As I get more experienced and collect more supplies I will be a little more descriptive, but one has to start somewhere.

BTW if anyone has any advise for a new blogger it would be much appreciated. I still have so much to learn. Thanks for looking.
